Job Overview:

The Director of Communications develops and implements ASCP?s overall communication strategies. The Director has responsibility for internal and external communications activities of ASCP, including member communications, media communications, career outreach, and other public outreach efforts. The Director reports on communications progress to volunteer leadership and represents the Society at major industry meetings to identify trends affecting the profession and leading experts in the field.

The Director of Communications understands that effective communication must be tailored to the individual audience, i.e., messages must be meaningful and relevant to the targeted audience and must be delivered at the appropriate time via the most effective communication vehicle. The Director must bring an ability to mobilize the Society?s rapid response to emerging issues when appropriate. Furthermore, the Director must also understand the value of delivering consistent messages over time to all audiences in order to advance the Society?s mission.? A strong relationship must exist with the Directors of Membership and Marketing in order to ensure development of an integrated communications and marketing strategy to achieve the above goals.??

Educational Background: Bachelors degree, Journalism/English. Master?s helpful.

Work Experience: Eight to ten years? professional experience necessary. Demonstrated experience adopting new communication technologies.? Experience in Association management ? including work with volunteer committees?is essential. ?Knowledge of health care issues important. ?Must be able to interact with, and provide communications counsel to, senior staff and volunteer leaders.

Special Training/Skills: Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Knowledge of current and emerging communications strategies and ability to adapt in the face of rapidly changing digital communications environment. Budget preparation and staff supervision experience necessary. Comfortable managing multiple projects and shifting priorities.??

Work Environment: Majority of work duties are accomplished in a typical office setting.? Extensive work-time?sitting?at a desk, working?at a computer with monitor & keyboard is?associated with this role.???The individual in this role will need to?have ability and willingness to work evenings &?weekends, & travel for work-related events,?as?required in order to accomplish the goals for this position.
