SAO PAULO (AP) -Brazilians have voted to name the 2014 World Cup mascot Fuleco.

FIFA says more than 1.7 million people in Brazil took part in the vote to select the name for the three-banded armadillo. The other options were Zuzeco and Amijubi.

Fuleco comes from the Portuguese words "futebol" (football) and "ecologia" (ecology), and FIFA says it "seamlessly represents the way in which the FIFA World Cup can combine the two to encourage people to behave in an environmentally friendly way."

Football's governing body said Sunday that Fuleco received 48 percent of the vote, while 31 percent went for Zuzeco and 21 percent for Amijubi.

In the broader concept, the quality of education refers to process and result of education as a whole. By establishing standards for students competence in student assessment, the government of Indonesia has standardized the quality of education in vocational school by holding a national test. National exam commonly abbreviated as UN/UNAS is a standard evaluation system of primary and secondary education in Indonesia and the equation of quality of education levels among the areas that conducted by the center for Educational Assessment, Depdiknas in Indonesia based on Undang-UndangRepublik Indonesia nomor 20 tahun 2003 states that in order to control the quality of education nationwide to be evaluated as a form of accountability of education providers to the parties concerned. Further stated that the evaluations conducted by independent agencies on a regular basis, comprehensively, transparently and systematically to assess the achievement of national education standards and the monitoring process evaluation should be done continuously. Evaluation of the monitoring process is carried out continuously and continuous in the end will be able to fix the quality of education. Improving the quality of education begins with the determination of the standard. Determination standards continue to rise is expected to encourage increased quality of education, which is determination of educational standards is the determination of the limit value (cut-off score). Someone said to have passed / competent when it has passed the limit value of the boundary between learners who have mastered certain competencies with learners who have not mastered certain competencies. It is stated that the purpose of learning. Talking about achievement of the target language, there are several elements, one of the main element is learning style. Experiences show that developed countries are those who place learning style as the main element in education. In Indonesia, has not placed appropriately in the policies and programs of education. Now a days is time to make policy with new paradigm, which is building education by starting it from subject of ? good teaching strategy by giving motivations as well?. Without it, the quality of education which is intended to educate people through the development of human resources will not be achieved. (Homes : 2007:20) ?.. motivation comes from outside the classroom and may be influenced by a number of external factors such as attitude of society, family and peers to the subject in question is often referred to as extrinsic motivation, the motivation that students bring into the classroom from outside, Intrinsic motivation. The motivation, on the other hand, is the kind of motivation that generated by what happens inside the classroom. This could be teachers? method, the activities, that the students take part in, or their perception of their success or failure. National Examination commonly abbreviated as UN/UNAS is a standard evaluation system of primary and secondary education in Indonesia and the equation of education quality levels among the areas that conducted by the Centre for Educational Assessment, the quality of education nationwide to be evaluated as a form of? accountability of education providers to the parties concerned. In Indonesia there are four subjects for vocational school students to be examined nationally by the government. One of the subject is English. There are several purposes why the government holds the national Examination. The government needs the students? result s to: a.?????? Determine the graduation of the students b.????? Select the student to continue the higher level of education c.?????? Map the quality or program of education d.????? Determine the quality of a school e.?????? Control and give aids to improve the quality of education As a result, the school could a student?s graduate although he got less than a three (3.00) in one of this National Examination as long as the average of all the subjects examined either school or National Examinations could reach a 6.00 (http:/wwwtokohindonesiacom/majdah/22kilas-un.~hhnl,2006). In the school year of 2005 and 2006 there are two different sets of examination for the third grade students because there are two kind of curriculum implemented. One set is developed according to the 1994 Curriculum and the other is based on the 2004 Curriculum The material of the examination is prepared by the central government, however, the multiplication of the items as well as? the scoring of the results is done by the provincial government. The scoring is computerized and also handled by the provincial government. During the Examination the students are watched by teachers from other schools, there are two teachers in one classroom watching the students do the examination. The teachers from the student?s own school are not allowed to be inside the room where the students are doing the examination because there might be a possibility that the teachers will help the students do the examination. In addition to the availability of local teachers there is also an independent team whose duty is to control the process of the examination. The independent team has to make sure that the examination runs well i.e. no cheating happens either by the students or by the teachers in the school. As soon as the students finis doing the National Examination, the answer sheets are put in and sealed correctly and honestly into the envelope and delivered to the committee of the examination The passing grade for the National Examination in 2006 is 4.25 and the average mark for the National Examination is at least 4.50. in 2005 the passing grade time the National Examination of four subjects began, the passing grade was only 4.10. however, in that year, the government used the score conversion which created a lot of problem because of the unfairness and the consistency of the conversion. The conversion system increased the benchmark from a score of 3.01 to 4.01. This score conversion, of course , benefited the poor students but it disadvantaged the good students because it raised the scores of students who answered correctly less than 50% but lowered the score of the students who could answer correctly more than 50% (Jakarta Post, 19February 2005) 2.????? English National Examination at vocational School Since the school year 2010/2011 The English National Examination in Indonesia has included the skills of listening and reading. In the school year 2011/2011 there were listening section has 15 questions and reading section has 45 questions. The time allowed to do the exam was 120 minutes. The listening section consisted of 4 parts. Part I tested the students? ability to describe the pictures. Part II tested the student?s ability in understanding a statement or question in English. Part III tested the student?s ability in understanding short conversation and Part IV tested the students? understanding of short texts. In the reading section, there are 35 question which tested the student?s ability in understanding authentic texts and language function, such as tenses, conjunction. In the reading section, there are 35 question which tested the students? ability in understanding authentic texts and languages function, such as tense, conjunction, conversational expression as well as vocabulary, it can be summarized into: 1.????? Marian Wright Edelman: Forward for Children

Americans committed to keep moving forward turned out in record numbers to vote in the battleground states. But we won?t be able to go forward until Congress sits down and makes the hard decisions to create a just budget that invests in children, our poorest group of Americans, and creates jobs for their struggling parents while making sure those who have benefited from huge tax cuts pull their weight. Exit polls have made clear that the majority of Americans -- Democrats, Independents, and many Republicans alike -- agree that the richest Americans and corporations need to pay their fair share.

For all those who voted, our work and duty is not done. We need to make sure to tell the president and Congress to ?be very careful what you cut? and make our voices heard now and for as long as necessary. Children, the poor and the middle class cannot afford more devastating cuts and instability as they continue to struggle against hunger, homelessness, joblessness, and loss of summer school and regular school days as a result of this long economic downturn.

To move forward, America?s security and prosperity depend on our children?s ability to drive the economy of the future. If a majority of them cannot read and compute at grade level in fourth, eighth and 12th grade, we will not have a strong economy. The leaders now facing crucial budget decisions must craft budget solutions that will protect the already porous safety nets on which so many children and families rely, and invest in the health, early childhood development and education of our children. To achieve long-term growth for America, any solution must: (1) protect investments serving children and low income families; (2) invest in children, which will create desperately needed jobs; and (3) ensure that the wealthiest Americans and corporations pay their fair share.

The fundamental principle of protecting children and other vulnerable populations has been a cornerstone of deficit reduction since the bipartisan Balanced Budget Act of 1985. Every automatic budget cut mechanism of the past quarter century has exempted core low-income assistance programs from any cuts triggered when budget targets or fiscal restraint rules were missed or violated. The American people still strongly support this principle. Recent polling conducted by the Pew Research Center showed almost 60 percent of Americans oppose cutting spending for anti-poverty programs. A Public Opinion Strategies poll showed even larger numbers of likely voters oppose cuts to Medicaid (73 percent) or education programs (75 percent).

Cutting children in the budget now will cost us all more later.

• Eliminating the Earned Income Tax Credit now would increase child poverty 23 percent in the future. Since poor children are more likely to drop out of high school, they are less likely to find steady work as adults. Paying for each year of high school dropouts costs us more than $125 billion over the course of their lifetimes.

• Eliminating early education investments now would increase a little boy?s chance of going to prison later in life by 39 percent. Incarcerating that child will cost us nearly three times more a year than it would have cost to provide him a quality early learning experience.

• Cutting just $4,000 of Medicaid and food stamps from a girl in a low-income family negatively impacts her health and nutrition. This can lead to poor performance in school, which increases her chances of getting pregnant as a teenager. And paying for teen pregnancies costs all of us $10 billion a year.

While unwise cuts cost us more in the long run, economists agree that investing in children promotes economic growth. For example, investments in education that raise high school graduation rates have been shown to yield a public benefit of $209,000 per student in higher government revenues and lower government spending, and an economic benefit to the public purse that is 2.5 times greater than the costs.

With more than 16.1 million children in America -- more than one in five of all children and more than one in three children of color -- living in poverty, special efforts must be made to address the needs of these most vulnerable among us. Poor children lag behind their peers in many ways beyond income: they are less healthy, trail in emotional and intellectual development, are less likely to graduate from high school and to find steady work as adults, and are more likely to head poor families. Every year we keep these millions of children in poverty costs our nation at least half a trillion dollars in lost productivity, poorer health, and increased crime.

Rather than imposing strict austerity measures without regard for the human consequences, we must invest now in children to prepare them for the future and help create jobs. The Earned Income and Child Tax Credits, supplemental nutrition assistance, work supports like child care and health coverage, and income safety nets like job training are all essential if our children are to escape poverty and be prepared to shoulder America?s economy in the future. Universal high-quality pre-kindergarten and kindergarten systems and out-of-school quality summer literacy and enrichment supports will keep children safe, enable parents to work, stop summer learning loss and better prepare them to succeed in school.

Finally, unprecedented and growing income inequality is robbing our children of the equal opportunity that is their birthright and sullying our nation?s purported values of fair play. Something is awry when our nation?s 400 wealthiest citizens reported as much income in 2008 as the combined tax revenue of 22 states with almost 42 million people. It is time for the richest Americans and corporations to pay their fair share. They do not need another tax cut! In 2010, the lowest 60 percent of taxpayers took in about the same share of income as the highest one percent. That same year, General Electric (GE) earned $14.2 billion in profits and paid no taxes. GE?s combined federal tax breaks of more than $5 billion in 2010 could have funded Head Start for an additional 670,000 preschoolers, creating 67,000 new jobs. Allowing the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans to expire on schedule is critical to meeting child needs and achieving a more just society.

I urge all of our leaders to fight for justice for children and the poor with urgency and persistence and to be guided by basic principles of fairness in the negotiations ahead: Protect children and low-income families from budget cuts that threaten their survival. Invest in children?s health, early childhood development, and quality education, make work pay through refundable Earned Income and Child Tax Credits, and create jobs, jobs, jobs with decent pay to help end child poverty and enable families to better prepare children for the future. Demand that the richest Americans and corporations contribute fairly and tell Congress that poor children should not be asked to subsidize tax cuts for those who do not need them. Insist that Congress be careful -- and just -- about what they cut.

Be careful what you cut. If our children are not ready for tomorrow, neither is America.

The Story Behind Page Chronica, The PS3 Game Where You Spell ...

Back in August, Siliconera covered a neat looking PS3 game called Page Chronica. The concept caught of a magical world where you spell spells grabbed my attention even though the game wasn?t announced. Page Chronica is available in Europe now and since we hear it?s coming to other regions we got in touch with Red Hare Studios to talk about the game and the Singaporean development scene.

Can you tell us about the history of Red Hare Studios?

?

Wee Lit Koh, Director: I starting developing while doing my postgraduate studies. I worked at a research laboratory during the day and prototyped the game by the night. I also used some of my limited stipend to pay for the game?s artwork. When I completed my postgraduate studies, I realized that my true calling was in the development of video games; for core gamers to be specific, rather than doing research work in a lab.

It was exciting to establish new theories and perform research but I what I truly wanted was to develop games that are seen and play by people, rather than theories and publications in academic journals. To this end, Red Hare Studios was thus formed in 2008 to serve that purpose, funded by my own savings. I employed the company?s first employee and we commercialized our first game four months later.

Were you surprised to see Page Chronica featured on Siliconera?

?

WL: We were generally very surprised with the amount of page hits when we googled Page Chronica as we have not made any public announcement about the game. When Siliconera reported about the game, our game was still clearing the QA from SCE. We have launched games in the past, but usually coverage for the game was drowned by other AAA titles. This is our first console title that we have developed with a team of six people over a period of two years. Hence we were pleasantly surprised when we learnt of the positive users comments on Siliconera. We look forward to receiving feedback about our first attempt at a console game, so as to create even more exciting games in the near future.

How did you come up with the idea for Page Chronica?

?

Qing Xiang Ho, Game Designer: Page Chronica was originally adapted from Trivium, a final year project I did back when I was in university. At that time, the game?s main mechanic was the use of three separate peripheral devices: Keyboard, Mouse and Gamepad. Due to the use of a Keyboard, there was a design that emphasized the typing of words to enable some attacks. This idea was carried forth when I pitched my game idea to Red Hare Studios. The notion that words contain physical power was alluring. We all understand that words can be powerful and inspirational, so why not demonstrate it? After much refinement and trouble-shooting, we finally arrived at the game design of the current game.

WL: In 2009, SCEAsia was touring Asia to recruit indie developers as part of their Asia Original Content program. They established a PlayStation incubation centre with Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), a tertiary education institution in Singapore. In January 2010, we were approached by NYP with the opportunity and when QX proposed his game concept to me, I decided to take the leap and we took up a space at the incubation centre. Eventually in September 2010, we were confident enough to pitch the game?s prototype to SCEAsia and the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA); the government agency responsible for spearheading Singapore?s media industry. We got some funding from MDA and publishing support from SCEAsia. Production of the game started in October 2010.

What is the theme of the story?

?

QX: As the game deals a lot with words, we decided to go with a storybook approach. In stories, words are everything ? words give life to the world and give meaning to actions. So what if all worlds are essentially made up of words? Fairytales, dreams, even the universe is made up of a hidden language that cannot be normally seen. And that is the premise we gave to the game story. The universe is contained in a library, a great evil seeks to rewrite the universe, and a heroine must rise to fight against destiny.

The word capture gameplay mechanic is interesting. How did you design this and how flexible is the system? Will we be able to use adjectives to modify spells?

?

QX: The core design element to this system is similar to most word games: the longer or more complex the words you form, the more points or advantage you will get. With that in mind, we set forth to create a game mechanic that encourages players to constantly form longer or more complex words. Of course there is a limit to the word length we can allow (it is set to a maximum of 7 letters) but we have tried our best to ensure players can form any word they want given the type of letters on screen. We were never aiming to symbolize or materialize the words similar to games like Scribblenauts, so usage of adjectives did not matter. As long as you form a word, it will go into powering your character.

Can you tell us how you designed levels with word capturing in mind? Will players always have the right letters to make spells so they can progress?

?

QX: Basically, every word that a Player forms will activate a certain skill. The longer the word formed by the Player, the more skills will be released. Players will need these skills to overcome the variety of obstacles that block their path to the end of the level. These obstacles can take the form of enemies, traps or switches. Players will also be given a set of attacks to destroy enemies with. The strength of these attacks is determined by the complexity of the word formed. The more complex the word, the stronger the attack will be. We have specifically designed the game in a way that Players will always be able to form a word, but it boils down to the Player?s own knowledge to effectively make use of the letters presented on screen.

What spells are your favorite and which invalid words can damage Topez?

?

QX: My personal favorite is the Slow Watch Spell which slows down time around Topez so that she can easily move past enemies or launch more attacks on them. The environment will take on a different color and all enemies will move slower. It is probably the most useful and powerful spell in the game. Will it all come down to Ohio? Both campaigns focus on the state

President Obama has visited Ohio more than 20 times this year alone. To ensure a smooth electoral college victory, the Buckeye State is a must-win for the president. As for GOP candidate Mitt Romney -- no Republican has won the White House without Ohio.

This election cycle, Ohio has been like its own political science experiment, one where Ohioans are subjected to an endless loop of political ads. Voters here have been pummeled by more ads than any other state in the country -- more than 205,000 during the general election campaign alone. The majority of those ads have been pro-Obama; 16,000 more ads in Ohio have backed the president over Romney and Republicans.

"We don't watch TV anymore. I'm sorry we mute you all ... during the commercials," says Paul Kostyu, reporter for the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The pro-Obama group Priorities USA Action began airing their Ohio ads in mid-May -- 25 weeks before election day.

Perhaps because the buy seemed relatively small, the Romney camp did not immediately respond to them. The Obama campaign continued the attacks through the spring and summer, hammering Romney on Bain Capital, and pushing the notion that he was more Gordon Gekko than Bill Gates.

One Republican strategist said one ad, called "Stage," single-handedly killed Romney in Ohio. That is hyperbolic, but "Stage" clearly is one of the few ads that people in this state remember, and not in a good way for Mitt Romney. One voter in a focus group said the ad made him want to "put Mitt Romney in a garbage can."

Three months later, Romney and his allied outside groups responded, with an?ad boasting Romney as the hero who saved the 2002 Winter Olympics.

With a struggling economy, and voters worried about the direction of the country and wary of the president's economic performance, Romney still has a chance in Ohio. But the president will not give up without a fight.

"Obama's got to win Cincinnati proper and get as much as he can out of the counties around it," says Paul Kostyu, the Cincinnati Enquirer reporter.

The president has strong support across the northern part of the state, from Cleveland to Toledo, and pockets of Columbus and Cincinnati, says Kostyu.?Romney, he adds, has pretty much everything else.
